the short version
the middle pipe company is 13 points ahead of the NIFTY 500 in three months: up about 6% while the index fell 6.2% (30 jul to 30 oct 2026). Welspun Corp rose 41.5% and DEE Development fell 21.5%
the test: an order only counts once it moves. Welspun’s share rose before its new orders did, and Jindal Saw has a 6 lakh tonne order that hasn’t shipped
the worry: Welspun’s new pipe gets made from april 2027, and 87% of its ₹3,108 cr of cash sits in one line the filing doesn’t explain

Welspun Corp share price: up 1,654% in five years
Welspun Corp went from ₹133.5 on 29 oct 2021 to ₹2,341.6 on 30 oct 2026, up 1,654%. the NIFTY 500 rose 45.1% in that time. i start the chart at 29 oct 2021, five years back. this piece is about the last three months, and nine other pipe companies that went a different way.
why Welspun Corp is beating the NIFTY 500 and DEE Development is trailing it
Welspun Corp is 48 points ahead of the NIFTY 500 (up 41.5% against down 6.2%) and DEE Development is 15 points behind (down 21.5%), and both have more orders. so more orders alone don’t explain it. six of the ten hadn’t filed july to september results by 2 nov 2026, so this is still an open test.
steel pipe stocks in India: ten ranked by three-month return
seven of these ten steel pipe stocks beat the NIFTY 500, and the gap from top to bottom was about 63 points, up 41.5% to down 21.5%. i picked ten listed companies that make steel pipes and tubes, or welding gear for the same customers. the middle of the group was up about 6%. Maharashtra Seamless beat the index by a hair.
what Welspun Corp, Jindal Saw and APL Apollo actually make
these ten don’t all make the same thing: think pipelines, everyday tubes, special tubes, and pipe systems. Welspun Corp, Man Industries and Jindal Saw make the big pipes. APL Apollo, Sambhv and Hi-Tech make the hollow tubes. for most of them, APL Apollo and Sambhv aside, the steel goes in long before the money comes back.
how a heavy engineering order gets paid: Diffusion’s three stages
Diffusion Engineers gets 10-20% of a heavy engineering order up front, and 70-80% only after the goods leave. the rest comes after the warranty papers. those are one company’s terms, and other pipe makers may differ. but it shows why a fat order book isn’t money yet. it’s money months away, if the buyer pays.
Diffusion Engineers’ chairman on when the money arrives
Diffusion Engineers’ chairman put the whole idea in one line. Prashant Garg said this on the 13 aug 2026 earnings call, when someone on the call asked about payment terms on heavy engineering products.
Welspun Corp order book: about ₹24,750 cr to about ₹50,000 cr
Welspun Corp’s order book, the work it has won but not yet delivered, doubled from 24 jul to 23 oct 2026. late on 20 aug it announced a US$1.8 billion order, and the share rose 15.3% the next day. then US$412.5 million on 25 sep, and about ₹5,500 cr on 23 oct for a US gas line feeding a data centre complex.
Welspun Corp Q2 results: less pipe sold, more operating profit
Welspun Corp sold less line pipe in july to september 2026 and still made 25% more operating profit. operating profit is what’s left after running costs, before interest and tax. it rose to ₹782 cr, company-wide. the results came out on 29 oct, and the share still fell more than 6% on 30 oct.
Welspun Corp cash flow: ₹3,108 cr in, mostly from one line
Welspun Corp brought in ₹3,108 cr of cash in six months, and ₹2,708 cr of it was a rise in “other current liabilities”. a year earlier ₹99 cr went out. the results filing doesn’t say what it is, and no filed transcript of the 30 oct call was on nse by 2 nov 2026. customers paying ahead would fit, but that’s my guess.
Jal Jeevan Mission payments: what Welspun Corp’s MD said
even Welspun Corp’s MD said work under India’s water scheme was slow, with money short and too many pipe makers. Vipul Mathur said this on the 27 jul 2026 call. Jindal Saw’s own july to september presentation later blamed “delays in JJM-related payments” too, so it isn’t only one company’s story.
Jindal Saw: profit down, and a Saudi order that hasn’t shipped
Jindal Saw makes the same big pipes as Welspun Corp, but its 6 lakh tonne Saudi order hasn’t been moving. shipments stopped in march 2026. by the 19 oct call the order was “delayed significantly”. july to september profit fell to ₹35 cr from ₹139 cr. after that call the share fell 8.5%, 7.7% and 7% on three straight trading days.
why DEE Development share price is down: orders up, payments slower
DEE Development’s order book rose 92.5% in a year, and its share fell the most in this group. customers took 123 days to pay in april to june 2026, up from 99. its own total fell, 276 days to 263, so it isn’t all bad. in the year to march 2026 it made ₹77 cr of profit and ₹20 cr of cash.
Hi-Tech Pipes results: more steel sold, less profit
Hi-Tech Pipes shows the other trap: sales up 79% and profit down 4%. in the june 2026 quarter steel it bought and sold on without making anything rose to ₹280 cr. interest cost doubled to ₹15.7 cr, with three new plants starting within months. the share fell 19.2% from 30 jul to 30 oct.
steel pipe companies: whose money stays stuck the longest
on one formula for all ten, DEE Development’s money stays stuck longest and APL Apollo’s not at all. it isn’t a clean rule for share prices: Man Industries at 114 days rose 37.1%, Diffusion at 159 rose 4.1%. DEE’s own count is lower, 263 days, on its own method. Sambhv, at 10 days, rose 31.7%. these are group-level figures, except Venus Pipes, which only has standalone ones.
when Welspun Corp’s new orders get delivered: from april 2027
the share moved first: Welspun Corp’s three big new orders get made between april 2027 and march 2029. that’s the same long wait, on the winner. FY28 means april 2027 to march 2028. the order book is real and filed, but none of this new pipe has reached profit, up to the september 2026 quarter.
what to check next in Welspun Corp, Jindal Saw and DEE Development
three things will show who actually turned orders into money: Welspun Corp’s cash line, Jindal Saw’s ship, and DEE’s customers. DEE and Hi-Tech hadn’t filed july to september results as of 2 nov 2026. Welspun Corp’s, filed 29 oct, are already out.
